Track Renewal and Overhead Upgrades

College Street and Carlton Street

College Street and Carlton Street Track Renewal and Overhead Upgrades

What we are doing and why

The City of Toronto and the TTC will be resuming renewal work along the College-Carlton corridor in late July. As part of Phase 2, sewer will be replaced on College Street from Yonge Street to Bay Street, and TTC track will be replaced on Carlton Street from Church Street to Yonge Street.

TTC overhead infrastructure upgrades will also be undertaken as part of this work. This work will help maintain critical transit and municipal assets in a state of good repair.

Construction is expected to continue until the end of 2026. For full construction and traffic details, visit toronto.ca/CollegeCarlton.

With work scheduled to begin as early as Monday, July 27, temporary changes to TTC service will be required starting as early as Sunday, July 26.

TTC Service Impacts

Starting as early as Sunday, July 26*, the TTC will begin diverting  Carlton in anticipation of the planned work.

*Accurate at time of posting. Service plans subject to change.

Streetcar service on 506 Carlton and 306 Carlton will be adjusted to operate via Dundas Street West between Bay Street and Parliament Street as the City watermain sewer work and TTC track and overhead work resumes on College/Carlton streets, from Bay Street to Church Street.

The 506B Carlton and 306B Carlton bus replacement service will be introduced between Spadina Station and Broadview Avenue at Gerrard Street East.

  • Eastbound 506B/306B Carlton replacement buses will operate via Spadina Avenue, College Street, Carlton Street, Parliament Street, and Gerrard Street East.
  • Westbound 506B/306B Carlton replacement buses will operate via Gerrard Street East, Parliament Street, Jarvis Street, Wellesley Street, Bay Street, College Street and Spadina Avenue.

Further details, including traffic plans and construction phases are available on the City of Toronto’s project webpage.

Please note that additional diversions may be required later in the year for Phase 3. TTC will communicate these changes at a later date.
