The fourth of our six new stations on the soon-to-be-opened Line 1 extension to York Region is Pioneer Village.
Named for the nearby history centre, Pioneer Village Station straddles the border between Toronto and York Region. Each municipality has its own station entrance and these are connected in subterranean passageways beneath Steeles Avenue.
The station was originally going to be called Steeles West and the architectural finishes reflect this in extensive use of striking weathered steel.
There are bus terminals on either side of the station to serve TTC and York Region buses respectively, a large commuter car park and extensive bike parking and storage facilities.
Pioneer Village Station has been designed to easily accommodate a future LRT route along Steeles Avenue when that becomes a reality.
Come and see the station for yourself when the line opens on December 17th!
Because Lawrence Station is not yet accessible, Wheel-Trans buses will operate from York Mills and St Clair stations. Customers travelling southbound on Line 1 who require an elevator should exit the train at York Mills Station and speak to any TTC staff member to request Wheel-Trans service.
Regular service resumes Monday morning at 6 a.m.

Years of service: 30
I work on the T1 train axels and I’m currently training some employees on truck repair. I’m also the Co-Chair of the Joint Health and Safety committee for the shop of 300 people. The delight of this job is in the challenge for me; I’m always up for new challenges and it’s a new job every day. At this shop, we have a fantastic Health and Safety committee. We try to address and rectify a lot of our safety issues. We are incredibly proud of our record of up to one million safe working hours. Keeping my coworkers safe here feels good because it’s like keeping my family safe. All the people I work with have been close to me for my whole career, and we see each other a lot outside of work as well. We really fee. like a close-knit family here at the shop.
