Construction Update - April 17, 2018

The next phase of work involves waterproofing the base of the bus roadway and each bus bay.

TTC’s contractor will be working overnight on Saturdays and Sundays to efficiently apply the new waterproofing base to the bus roadway and each bus bay. One bus bay will be completed each weekend, moving in a west to east direction.

Saturdays – the surface of each bus bay will be thoroughly cleaned of dust and debris with a portable machine similar to the one pictured.

Sundays – multiple layers of waterproofing will be applied to the bus bay.

Both tasks can only be completed safely and efficiently when there is less bus activity at the station.

Odour

During the application of the waterproof base, there may be a non-hazardous odour produced by the product. The contractor will have fans on-site to disperse the odour.

Work hours

The work will take place on Saturdays between 1:30 a.m. to 6 a.m. and Sundays between 1:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m.

During this work, noise from the portable cleaning unit and the workers may be audible to area residents.

Thank you for your patience during these improvements.

Work description and purpose

TTC is currently reconstructing the ramp leading up to the bus roadway, as well as rebuilding the entire length of the roadway within TTC property. The contract includes concrete repairs to the subway structure, installation of new fencing, sidewalks, storm sewers, catching basins and lighting. The approximate completion date is June 2018.

All work takes place behind construction hoarding. A safe work zone area will be established to allow the contractor to work during the day without impacting customers.

Work hours

The majority of the work will take place weekdays between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. as well as some weekends. Periodic night work will be required to deliver/relocate material and equipment. For safety reasons, this must occur while buses are not operating in the station.

A safe work zone will allow the contractor to work during the day without impacting daily train operations.

General details of project

  • The majority of the work will take place within the TTC property.
  • Temporary lights will be used to illuminate the construction during night work
  • Contractor parking will be contained within the construction site.
