Lawrence East Station - roof rehabilitation
Mid-April 2019 to Mid-January 2020
What we are doing and why?
The TTC will be conducting roof rehabilitation at Lawrence East Station. During this project, the station will remain open and service will be maintained. Some bus bays may be temporarily closed during different stages of the project.
Starting in mid-April, crews will begin by creating a safe work zone and start installing guard rails along the perimeter of the roof. The project will include the removal and installation of new roof flashings and guardrails along the roof wall, removal of the old roof material, application of new roof material, and some structural repairs to beams and columns.
For the safety of customers using Lawrence East Station, some material deliveries will be conducted overnight multiple times during the course of the project. Some supplies will be stored on the roof.
Noise will be kept to a minimum as best as possible.
Odour, dust and debris disposal
The traditional method of liquid asphalt application (asphalt kettle) is not being used. The new roofing system is a 2-ply modified bitumen membrane applied with heat; therefore, less odour.
Dust will be controlled as much as possible. Material storage and access to the roof will require closing sections of the bus roadway with hoarding at different stages of the project.
Work will typically take place during regular daytime hours of 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday, and Saturdays as required. Some overnight work including delivery of materials/supplies or working on the roofs edge may occur between 2:30 a.m. and 5 a.m.
Thank you for your patience as we work to improve transit in Toronto.
