September 3, 2010

On Sunday, September 5, the Toronto Transit Commission is increasing services during the peak and off-peak times on all days of the week on more than 30 individual bus, streetcar and subway routes. These major service improvements are designed to reduce crowding and enhance reliability.

Highlights:

  • 62 individual service increases on 27 routes.
  • 21 increases in the morning and afternoon rush hours. Eight more morning rush-hour buses and one more morning rush streetcar. Ten more afternoon rush-hour buses and one more morning rush streetcar.

Ridership in 2010 is up over 2009 levels. As ridership growth continues, the TTC will add service to meet demand consistent with the 2003 Ridership Growth Strategy. For example, in 2008, service was added ensuring every bus and streetcar route’s hours of service matched subway hours of service, with maximum 30 minute wait times.
