King-Queen-Queensway-Roncesvalles intersection - track and infrastructure improvements
Partial intersection closure starting Monday, April 5, 2021
Construction update - September 2021
The intersection of KQQR was partially closed as of April 5 2021 as part of coordinated efforts by the City and TTC to upgrade various infrastructure in the area. Road users are able to travel east-west along The Queensway and King Street West. The move from Phase 1 into Phase 2 scheduled for July 22 did not occur as originally planned. Upon completion of the 1st Phase of work at KQQR (targeted for late October) some traffic changes will occur for Phase 2. During Phase 2, King Street will be closed at the KQQR intersection and road users will be able to travel east-west along The Queensway and Queen Street West - details to be confirmed.
Construction update – July 20, 2021
Work continues at the KQQR intersection and area. The traffic changes scheduled to take effect on July 22 through the intersection has been delayed until further notice. As a result, the current temporary routings for the 504/304 King and 501/301 Queen services will also continue until further notice.
The 402 Parkdale Community Bus service has been modified starting September 7, 2021. Service was changed to operate into Dundas West Station and Bloor street west, and removed from Wallace Avenue and Lansdowne Avenue north of Dundas Street West. Service operates on Tuesdays and Fridays from approximately 9:30am to 5:30pm. Service will be improved from every 90 minutes to every 60 minutes. Queen Street West and St Joseph’s Hospital continue to be served by route 402, detouring to navigate around the partially closed intersection at King-Queen-Queensway-Roncesvalles.
2 TTC Service Changes
What we are doing and why
City and TTC will be working at the intersection of King Street, Queen Street, The Queensway, and Roncesvalles Avenue (KQQR) this year. The project will include replacing streetcar track, overhead infrastructure/poles, lighting, watermain and sewers, and also extend the dedicated streetcar right-of-way from Claude Avenue east to KQQR, enhance streetcar stops and improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists. The overall joint project is expected to be completed by summer 2022.
As of January 3, in preparation for this project, buses have replaced 501 Queen streetcars between Long Branch Loop and Jarvis Street, and 504 King streetcars between Dundas West Station and Shaw Street. Additional service changes/diversions will be necessary in the KQQR area beginning in late March.
Additional information and service changes will be updated here as well as the City of Toronto's dedicated webpage.
- Crews will work Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. with additional hours as needed, until August 2022.
