Vaughan Corporate Centre Subway Station Construction Begins

August 4, 2011

The fourth major contract for the Toronto-York Spadina Subway Extension (TYSSE) project was awarded in June 2011 to Carillion Canada Co. for the Vaughan Corporate Centre Subway Station. Construction is underway for this station which will be the end of the extension and includes a York Regional Transit (YRT) bus terminal and connection to the future Viva Rapidway. A construction area will be established on Millway Avenue from Highway 7 to Portage Parkway.

Early construction work involves:

Work Hours

Map of Vaughan Metropolitan Neighbourhood

The City of Vaughan has approved a noise by-law amendment which allows the contractor to perform overnight and weekend work when required to minimize long-term disruption and to keep the project on schedule. Notices will be distributed to keep the community informed.

Millway Avenue to be closed Fall 2011 - 2014

Access to Millway Avenue is required for long-term station and tunnel construction. Millway Avenue will be closed starting this Fall from Portage Parkway to Highway 7 including the intersection of Apple Mill Road. A construction notice and update will be provided in advance of the closure.

Highway 7 Lane Restrictions

Highway 7 will remain open at all times during construction, with three lanes open in both directions, and temporary single lane restrictions only when necessary.

Construction Vehicle Access

Construction vehicles will be entering and exiting the construction sites from Portage Parkway, Millway Avenue and Highway 7.

YRT Bus Route Services

Eastbound and westbound YRT bus stops at Millway Avenue and Highway 7 will be closed later this fall. Notice will be provided in advance of changes to bus services. Transit delays may be experienced during peak times on YRT bus routes. Your patience during this time is greatly appreciated.

Motorists

Additional signs may be posted to support construction so please use extra care when travelling on Highway 7 between Jane Street and Interchange Way. When Highway 7 is being used to move construction material or equipment, traffic may be temporarily delayed or limited to a reduced speed.

Pedestrian Access/Walkways

Sidewalks will remain open on one side of Highway 7 to maintain pedestrian access during this portion of construction. Please take extra care while travelling near construction.

Construction updates will be provided as required through the first stage of construction. A detailed update will be provided before the closure of Millway Avenue.

We regret any inconvenience that may be caused as a result of this work.
