Subway Construction Resumes Near Schulich Building

December 19, 2011

Starting today, Monday December 19th, preparation will begin for subway construction to resume near the Seymour Schulich Building. The Ministry of Labour have released the western portion of the accident site to the contractor, as shown below as Site 3A. TTC and York University are satisfied that construction activity may resume within this area.

Crews will remobilize and prepare for drilling activity as they need to construct a compensation grouting shaft to be used in the building protection program of the Schulich Building prior to the arrival of the tunnel boring machine. This shaft will be excavated further away from the Schulich Building than originally proposed by approximately 10 metres. Every effort will be made to complete the work prior to the start of classes in January 2012.

No construction will take place in the east portion of the accident site, shown below as Site 3B, as it remains under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Labour.
