Drill Rig Commissioning and Operations near Seymour Schulich Building

February 9, 2012

Drilling operations will begin Thursday February 9th after 6:00 p.m. in the former accident site, near the Seymour Schulich Building. The contractor is working closely with the Ministry of Labour (MoL) and drilling operations will commence as soon as the Ministry of Labour approves the work method statements for the commissioning of the drill rig and the drilling operations. Once approval is received, the contractor will begin commissioning the new rig either Thursday, February 9th after 6:00 p.m. or during the day, Friday February 10th, at the eastern grout shaft. Commissioning requires performing certain tests of the rig and partial drilling operations.

With respect to continuing drilling operations to complete compensation grout shafts, efforts will be made to minimize the disruption to the Schulich and York University communities as no day time drilling operations will occur during the remainder of the exam period, i.e. Monday, February 13th to end of Thursday, February 16th. The contractor will use the opportunity of reading week, starting Friday, February 17th, to perform day time and/or night time drilling, as required.

While working with the MoL, the contractor has carried out thorough preparations of the site and equipment in an effort to resume construction and ensure a timely completion of the compensation grouts shafts which are an important element of the building protection program for the Schulich building, prior to arrival of the tunnel boring machines.

As construction continues on the York University Station site, related construction notices will be issued. Your ongoing patience and understanding is appreciated.
