York Boulevard Closure and Damaged Equipment Removal

January 12, 2012

The Ministry of Labour has granted permission to the contractor to remove all damaged equipment within the accident site adjacent to the Seymour Schulich Building. Crews will carry out this work over four days, starting this Friday, January 13th at 7:00 pm until 5:00 am Wednesday January 18th. Efforts will be made to perform the work through weekend and overnight shifts to minimize the disruption as much as possible and to respect the Schulich and York University communities.

York Boulevard will be closed from Friday January 13th at 7:00pm until 5:00 am Wednesday January 18th to allow for the damaged equipment to be dismantled and removed. During these four days, both TTC and GO Transit buses will be temporarily diverted, and will access the Common via Ian Macdonald Boulevard from the south. On Monday January 16th and Tuesday January 17th, Paid Duty Officers will help ensure safe pedestrian and vehicular traffic flow at the intersections of The Pond Road at Ian Macdonald Boulevard. and James Gillies Street. Due to the temporary bus diversion, increased traffic congestion will be experienced along this route. Transit delays may be experienced during peak times. Your patience is greately appreciated.

The south leg of York Boulevard, adjacent to the Schulich School of Business, will remain closed to allow construction to continue within the site. To maintain transit service in the Common, starting the morning of Wednesday January 18th, a new bus-only access road will be opened. There will be intersection modifications at York Boulevard and James Gillies Street. As private vehicles are not permitted to enter the Common, please follow the traffic signs and proceed with extra care at this intersection.

As construction continues on the York University Station site, related construction notices will be issued.
