DELAYED DUE TO POOR WEATHER CONDITIONS: Lane Reduction on Highway 7 Between Jane Street and Edgeley Boulevard will now begin the week of June 22, 2015

June 17, 2015

NOTE: Work may be rescheduled due to inclement  weather or other variables. We will provide advance notice of schedule changes, whenever possible.

Significant progress has been made on the construction of Vaughan Metropolitan Centre (VMC) Station over the past two years. The next phase of TTC construction (Phase 1 of the lane reduction) involves backfilling the station beneath Highway 7, removal of the traffic bridge and work on the connection to the vivaNext bus rapidway. Phase 2, by vivaNext,  is work in the centre of the roadway to build the subway station connection to the bus rapidway, and to widen the north side of Highway 7.

Lane Reduction on Highway 7

To facilitate this work, traffic lanes on Highway 7 will be shifted to the south, and a section of Highway 7, from west of Jane Street to east of Edgeley Boulevard (approximately 500m), will be reduced from six lanes to four lanes. Two lanes eastbound and two lanes westbound will remain open at all times.
The lane reduction on Highway 7 is necessary to expedite work on TTC subway station construction, including the connection to the vivaNext bus rapidway.

Duration of Construction

To complete Phase 1 of construction, the Highway 7 lane reduction, from west of Jane Street to Edgeley Boulevard, will now begin the week of June 22, 2015. Phase 2 of construction will follow immediately, with the lane reduction remaining in place until the end of 2015.

Getting Around During Construction

Drivers may encounter delays when passing through the construction area. A map (see below) of the general area is marked with detour options to by-pass the affected area.

York Region Transit and Brampton Züm Bus Routes

Transit delays may be experienced on the YRT 77 and the Brampton Transit Züm 501, both of which travel through the affected area on Highway 7.

Pedestrian Access/Walkways

The pedestrian walkway on the north side of Highway 7 will be closed. A new walkway will be available on the south side of Highway 7. Pedestrians should follow the posted signage and take extra care when walking near construction areas.

Signage

Appropriate signage, including variable messaging signs, will be posted at various locations to promote awareness of the lane reductions and to help guide traffic through the area.
