Bathurst Street and Lake Shore Boulevard West
What we are doing and why
Starting in February 2025 and continuing until June 2025, the City of Toronto and TTC will begin construction work at the intersection of Bathurst Street and Lake Shore Boulevard West. Work will include:
- Replacing the 105-year-old watermain
- Replacing the streetcar tracks
- Implementing streetscape improvements on Fleet Street.
This work is being strategically phased to avoid fully closing the Bathurst Street and Lake Shore Boulevard West intersection.
Visit the City of Toronto's project webpage for full construction details.
TTC service impacts
During all phases of this project, the TTC will divert 509 Harbourfront and 511 Bathurst streetcars around the active work zone. Once these diversions are finalized, this webpage will share details.
Wheel-Trans services will remain accessible in all areas where local traffic is permitted.
Construction phases and work hours
Construction is expected to take place over three phases from February 2025 to June 2025:
Phase | Dates | Details |
Phase 1 | From mid-February to mid-March 2025 | Watermain replacement at the Lake Shore Boulevard West and Bathurst Street intersection |
Phase 2 | From mid-March to mid-April 2025 |
|
Phase 3 | From mid-April to June 2025 | Streetcar track replacement on the south side of the Bathurst Street and Lake Shore Boulevard West intersection. This will be followed by City's contractor undertaking restoration work to complete the project. |
Once construction is complete, the TTC will test the newly installed streetcar tracks. This is expected to be complete by the end of June 2025.
Please note that excavation activities and concrete and rail removal will be carried out at various times throughout the day. Most excavation work will occur between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m.
TTC crews must work around the clock (24/7) during new rail installation to preserve the integrity and quality of the new rail and concrete. Additional overnight rail work may include moving the new rail into position for installation.
