Spadina Station
Project Update
Easier Access
As part of the TTC's Easier Access program, construction has begun at Spadina Station (Line 1) to install two new elevators. Market conditions have changed since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic concerning the cost of work and the availability of materials, which has impacted work. There have been requirements for extensive third-party utility relocations and modifications. The project schedule for Spadina Station (Line 1) is for the elevators to be in service by late 2026.

What we are doing and why
The TTC is building two new elevators to create a barrier-free path connecting the subway platform level on Line 1 to the underground pedestrian walkway leading to Spadina Station Line 2, the streetcar platform, the bus terminal, and the street-level entrances/exits.
The Easier Access improvements will include:
- Two new elevators
- Improved signage
- CCTV – Security cameras inside the station
- Public art installation as a part of the TTC Public Art Program
What to expect
Staging for Phases 1 and 2
Work will be completed in two phases, starting with the construction of Elevator 2 (E2) on Lowther Avenue west of Spadina Road (Phase 1) and then moving onto Elevator 1 (E1) on the southeast corner of Spadina Road and Lowther Avenue (Phase 2).
Traffic and pedestrian details
- Traffic on Spadina Road is maintained with lane restrictions.
- Lowther Avenue, west of Spadina Road, is closed to traffic for the duration of E2 construction.
- Sidewalk closures / detours will be required.
- Bus stop(s) at the intersection of Spadina Road and Lowther Avenue are temporarily affected.
Work hours
Work will typically take place Monday to Friday between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Some work on weekends and overnight may be required.
TTC service
Subway service at the station will be maintained throughout construction. The bus stop(s) at Spadina Road and Lowther Avenue temporarily are affected at various points during construction.
Thank you for your patience as we work to improve Spadina Station (Line 1).
