Spadina Avenue and Spadina Station Streetcar Loop - infrastructure upgrades
Transit Update - November 26, 2024
The 510 Spadina streetcar is scheduled to return in March 2025. TTC is continuing to replace hundreds of metres or rails, as well as bolts and anchors in the tunnel. Replacement buses will continue operating in the priority lane on Spadina Avenue during this time.
What we are doing and why
Since June 23, 2024, the TTC has been conducting overhead upgrades along sections of the Spadina Avenue streetcar right-of-way between Queens Quay West and Spadina Station. The TTC will also use this time to conduct critical track renewal at Spadina Station as well as complete enabling works to allow for a future streetcar platform extension.
As a result, 510/310 Spadina streetcars are currently replaced by buses from June 23 to March 2025.
Work activities and locations
All work will be conducted along the Spadina Avenue streetcar right-of-way and inside Spadina Station streetcar loop from June 23 to March 2025:
- Overhead upgrades between King Street and Queens Quay, and from College Street to Spadina Station (see Figure 1).
- Track renewal work at Spadina Station streetcar loop (see Figure 2) and installation of new street-level gates just north of Sussex Avenue to prevent unauthorized entry into the streetcar tunnels.
- Enabling works inside the streetcar loop for a future streetcar platform extension.

What to expect
- TTC overhead trucks with hydraulic equipment will be used to carry out the overhead upgrades. While efforts will be made by the crew to keep noise to a minimum, beeping sounds when the trucks are backing up will be audible. Equipment lights may also be noticeable.
- Additional local rail repairs may be scheduled along the Spadina right-of-way.
- Construction hoarding at Spadina Station streetcar platform area.
Work hours
Work will typically take place Monday to Friday between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Some work on weekends and overnight may be required.
Motorist, cyclist, and pedestrian impacts
- All work will take place on TTC property, including the streetcar right-of-way on Spadina Avenue and the Spadina Station streetcar loop.
- Traffic on Spadina Avenue is not expected to be impacted by construction.
- Sidewalks and bike lanes are not expected to be impacted by construction.
TTC 510/310 Spadina bus service – as of June 23, 2024
- 510 Spadina streetcar service will be replaced by buses. Buses will operate on Spadina Avenue in mixed traffic and serve curbside transit stops. Southbound buses between Richmond Street and Lake Shore Boulevard will operate along a dedicated transit lane.
- At Spadina Station, 510/310 Spadina buses will serve customers from the bus loop (street level).
Thank you for your patience as we work to improve transit infrastructure in Toronto.
