Man sentenced to five days in jail, banned from riding TTC late evenings

A 30-year-old man was sentenced to five days in jail after pleading guilty to threatening a TTC Operator with bodily harm. Alistair Bandoo also received one year probation, including a ban from using the TTC between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., seven days a week.

On Nov. 27 the accused was causing a disturbance and bothering customers on board an Eglinton Ave. W. TTC bus. The Operator asked the accused to cease or he would request that he leave the bus. The accused approached the Operator, put his hand in his coat and stated he had a gun, threatening to shoot the Operator. Toronto police were called and arrested and charged Bandoo with threatening bodily harm. He was sentenced on Nov. 30.

On average, two TTC employees are assaulted every day, ranging from punching, slapping and spitting, to threats of physical harm or death. The TTC’s court advocates work with Crown Attorneys and the Courts to secure the stiffest penalties possible for those convicted of assault or threats against TTC employees, and continue to seek limits on the use of public transit in Toronto for those convicted of these crimes.
