Signal and track work on Line 2 this weekend
This weekend, April 23-24, crews will replace 1,350 ft. of rail on Line 2 (Bloor-Danforth), requiring the portion of the subway line between Victoria Park and Kennedy stations to close. Shuttle buses will run frequently, stopping only at subway stations along the route.
Wheel-Trans buses will be available for customers requiring accessible transit. TTC staff will be on-site at all affected stations to assist customers.
In addition to the rail replacement, crews will conduct switch replacement at the Kennedy Station crossover and switch maintenance between Warden and Kennedy stations. Crews will also complete other maintenance work, including drain snaking for plumbing at the Massey Creek exit west of Kennedy Station, and fence repair in the open areas around the track.
Maintaining subway infrastructure in a state-of-good-repair is critical to ensuring a safe, reliable transit system. While the TTC does much of its maintenance work on the subway at the conclusion of service each night, it will continue to require weekend closures to complete improvements to infrastructure and signals, such as automatic train control. One weekend of work during a subway closure equals about five weeks of nightly work. The TTC appreciates the public’s patience and understanding.
Regular service resumes Monday at 6 a.m. The next three schedule subway closures are:
- Line 2: Pape to St George early closing – April 30
- Line 2: Bathurst to Jane closure – May 7-8
- Line 2: Pape to St George late opening – May 15
