TTC celebrates the Year of the Rabbit
This January, the TTC is proud to once again recognize Lunar New Year. To celebrate the Year of the Rabbit, the TTC has wrapped three buses and two streetcars, which can be seen on various routes across the city, beginning this Sun., Jan. 22.
“I am pleased to see all City services including our public transit system are embracing the rich diversity of our city’s communities and recognizing Lunar New Year. To all Torontonians who are celebrating I wish you and your loved ones health and happiness in the year ahead—happy new year!” said Mayor John Tory.
“The TTC remains committed to providing a transit system that is inclusive and welcoming for all of our customers,” said TTC Chair Jon Burnside. “Recognizing occasions such as Lunar New Year allows us to celebrate the diversity of our customers, employees, and the City of Toronto. I want to wish everyone a joyful and prosperous Lunar New Year.”
“In December 2020, the TTC released its 10-Point Action Plan on Diversity and Inclusion, and we committed to creating a transit system where everyone feels welcomed,” said TTC CEO Rick Leary. “We are proud to play a role in acknowledging and celebrating the many cultures that make up our great city and wish all those celebrating a prosperous and Happy New Year.”
Starting Sun., Jan. 22 for the duration of Lunar New Year, three buses and two streetcars will feature a design celebrating the Year of the Rabbit. The wrapped vehicles will share a message of good fortune for the year ahead translated in multiple languages, including: Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, Thai, Tibetan, Tagalog, Malay, Indonesian and Mongolian. The vehicles will operate along the following routes:
- 510 Spadina, along Spadina Rd., through the core of Chinatown
- 506 Carlton, along Gerrard St., through Chinatown East
- 25 Don Mills

The TTC will also be running a robust internal communications campaign to highlight Lunar New Year, encouraging employees to share how they are celebrating. The TTC will also be spotlighting Lunar New Year on its social and digital channels.
People are encouraged to take and share photos and videos of the vehicles on social media using #LNYxTTC. Customers can visit ttc.ca for more information about diversity and inclusion at the TTC and the Lunar New Year campaign.
