Service diversions and upcoming early nightly subway closures
The TTC is updating customers about service diversions on Queen St. W. and on upcoming nightly service changes.
Update on streetcar service impacted by emergency watermain repairs at Queen St. W. and Lansdowne Ave.
The TTC is advising customers that buses will continue to replace streetcar service along Queen St. W., between Dufferin St. and Roncesvalles Ave., while Toronto Water conducts emergency watermain repairs at Lansdowne Ave.
The work requires a City of Toronto contractor to tunnel beneath TTC streetcar tracks to reach the watermain break, making it unsafe to run streetcars over the affected area.
Replacement buses are serving all stops along Queen St. W. between Shaw St. and Roncesvalles Ave, with service both ways to Dundas West Station. Customers transferring from streetcars can do so westbound before Dufferin St., and eastbound at Roncesvalles Ave.
Several streetcar routes are being redirected, including:
- 501 Queen (after 10 p.m. nightly)
- 504A | 304 King, running between Dundas West Station and Distillery Loop
- 504B King, running between Humber Loop and Broadview Station
- 508 Lake Shore

It is estimated that the watermain repairs will be completed this weekend.
Buses to replace streetcars on portion of 510 Spadina route late evenings Friday to Monday
Fri., Mar. 1 until Mon., Mar. 4, buses will replace streetcars on a portion of the 510 Spadina route nightly from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. This is to accommodate maintenance of the Spadina Station streetcar tunnel.
510 Spadina replacement buses will operate both ways between Spadina Station and College St. At Spadina Station, customers can board replacement buses at street stops outside the station. During these hours 510/310 Spadina streetcars will be diverting both ways to Bathurst Station via College St.
Monday – Friday early nightly subway closures
Mon., Mar. 4, through Fri., Mar. 8, subway service on the portion of Line 1 Yonge-University between College and Osgoode stations will end nightly at 11 p.m.
Shuttle buses will run, stopping at each station along the route. TTC staff will be on hand to direct customers to shuttle boarding and offloading locations. King and Queen stations will be closed during these hours. All other subway stations will remain open for customers to load PRESTO cards, purchase PRESTO tickets and connect to surface routes.
Extra Wheel-Trans vehicles will be available in the downtown core. Customers who require Wheel-Trans service can speak with any TTC customer service staff member for assistance. College Station is not accessible for customers with mobility needs. For elevator service, customers travelling south toward Union Station should exit at Wellesley Station.
The early nightly closures are to accommodate track work to enable the lifting of speed restrictions along sections of the downtown U. At reduced speeds, trains are moving at between 15 and 25 km/h, compared to normal speeds of 40 to 50 km/h. With the completion of the track replacement work, commuters can expect a significant improvement in train speeds, resulting in faster and more reliable trip times.
While the TTC does most subway maintenance at the conclusion of service each night, it continues to require weekend and early weeknight closures to complete critical infrastructure and state-of-good-repair work.
Bus diversions
Sat., Mar. 2, the 12 Kingston Road and 302 Kingston Rd-McCowan Night routes will divert due to construction. Buses will run both ways between Victoria Park Ave. and Kingston Rd. via Gerrard St. E., Clonmore Dr., and Warden Ave.
