Royal Canadian Legion and TTC to launch annual poppy campaign Friday

This Fri., Oct. 25, at 11 a.m., TTC CEO Greg Percy and Royal Canadian Legion District D Commander John Dufort will host a special event at Leslie Station on Line 4 Sheppard. The event will bring together 55 grade four students from Davisville Public School along with Canadian veterans to launch the Toronto Royal Canadian Legion's annual TTC Poppy Campaign.

It is a poignant moment where the younger generation honours those who have served Canada with dedication and sacrifice. Veterans from Sunnybrook Veterans Centre will pin poppies on the students, serving as a reminder for all Torontonians to proudly wear a poppy in honor of our servicemen and women.

On Remembrance Day, Mon. Nov.11, at 11 a.m., the TTC will pay tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service of our nation. All TTC services will come to a pause for two minutes of silence in reflection and remembrance of the bravery and selflessness of Canada’s fallen heroes. On this day, all TTC buses and streetcars will prominently display signs reading ‘Lest We Forget,’ while messages honoring our veterans will be broadcasted on all platform video screens across the subway system.

In a display of respect and honour, the TTC Honour Guard will take part in the Remembrance Day service at the Cenotaph at Old City Hall.

On Remembrance Day, all current members of the Canadian Armed Forces in uniform, as well as war and peacekeeping veterans wearing military service medals or ribbons, can ride the TTC free of charge. They are also welcome to bring along a companion to share in this moment of remembrance and gratitude.
