Underground Utility Chamber Rebuild

What are we doing and why?

The TTC is rebuilding an existing underground utility chamber on the west side of Church Street, just south of Gerrard Street East. The chamber is part of a network across the City of Toronto that provides TTC and other utility companies with access to electrical and communication cabling.

What to expect

Crews set up a safe work zone with traffic signage and controls in early September. Crews will excavate the west curb lane on Church Street (south of Gerrard Street East) to expose the concrete utility chamber. Some equipment and materials will remain on the worksite overnight to facilitate work activity.

Work hours

Work will primarily occur Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Crews may be required to work on Saturdays between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. as needed.

Travel impacts

  • Traffic will be maintained in each direction on Church Street for the project's duration.
  • The southbound curb lane on Church Street, south of Gerrard Street East, will be reduced through the work zone for safety.
  • Occasional parking restrictions may be required on Church Street adjacent to the work zone.
  • The sidewalk next to the work zone will remain accessible.

TTC service

This work will not impact TTC service on Church Street.
