What we are doing and why

As part of the TTC’s Easier Access Project to make Spadina Station (Line 1) accessible to everyone, work is underway at street level at Spadina Road and Lowther Avenue and inside Spadina Station (Line 1).

As of March 2024, all escalators at northbound and southbound platforms are out of service. These changes are required because Elevator 1 (E1) at the northbound and the accessible path to Elevator 2 (E2) at the southbound are being constructed at the location of these escalators.

Upon completion of the Easier Access project (by the end of 2026*), one escalator at the southbound platform will be back in service. The remaining three escalators are permanently removed to accommodate the new elevators.

What to expect

  • All escalators are out of service at northbound and southbound platforms.
    • Northbound: both escalators are permanently out of service
    • Southbound: one escalator is permanently out of service, and the remaining escalator will be back in service when the new elevator is installed at the southbound (by the end of 2026*)
  • Only one staircase is available in each direction for connection from the northbound and southbound platforms to the pedestrian walkway.
  • There are new protective hoardings in this area to allow for safe construction.
  • Disruption to subway, streetcar, or bus service at Spadina Station is not expected for this work.

Work hours

Work will typically take place Monday to Friday between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Some work on weekends and overnight may be required. Weather conditions may affect the progress of this work.
